World Hunger

. Hunger is the most extreme manifestation of poverty and human deprivation. Hungry people are unable to work to their full potential, are more susceptible to ill health and lack the capacity to save and invest. ... Hunger is as much a cause as an effect of poverty.

Have you ever thought about the food you eat a typical day? For breakfast cereal or egg, for lunch sandwich, for snacks fries and biscuits, for dinner burger or pizza and different types of food every day. If you are like most people, you don’t worry about the food you are getting and the food you are eating. There is always your favorite food in your kitchen. Unfortunately, millions upon millions of people sleep hungry every day. A vast majority of the world's hungry people live in developing countries. The situation is worst in Africa, with almost 21 percent of the population there facing hunger on a daily basis. Asia is the continent with the highest number of hungry people in absolute terms. More than 11 percent of their population faces food hunger. Hunger is more than just having no food to eat. it’s about not having enough nutritious food to eat. Poor nutrition leads to 45 percent of deaths in children under the age of five, due to an insufficient intake of calories, proteins, vitamins, and minerals. Many of the population is affected by micronutrient deficiencies which are also known as ‘hidden hunger’ because most people do not even know about it. Many people say our world doesn’t make enough food for the people but scientifically millions of more food than the population is made every year. Then why is there food hunger?

I'm Hungry

Poverty is one of the main causes of food hunger. Many people around the world are too poor to either buy food or access the resources they need to grow, harvest, and store their food. This is the primary reason why world hunger is a problem. Climate extremes are also contributing to world hunger. The World Bank estimates that climate change could push more than 100 million people into poverty over the next 10 years. World hunger is still a problem due to the high rates of food waste. Food waste commonly occurs when restaurants and people at home throw out food. Estimates show that about a third of the world’s food production goes to waste annually. This is enough to feed hungry people twice they need.

wasting food

In order to effectively fight hunger, governments, non-governmental organizations and global leaders across all sectors need to work together to find new solutions to world hunger. If managed well, our agriculture, forestry, and fisheries can provide enough nutritious food for everyone on the planet, while also generating sustainable incomes and protecting the environment. Also, our oceans, freshwater sources, forests, soil, and biodiversity are rapidly degrading. Climate change continues to put pressure on these valuable resources. World hunger can seem like one of those insoluble problems, too big for any of us to fix. But by making changes in our own lives, like at home, at work, in our communities, we too can contribute to finding world hunger solutions. Together, we can participate in zero hunger, we can build a world where meals are shared, everyone has a seat at the table and there is always enough food to go around. We all have a part to play in reducing a third of the world’s food that goes to waste each year. Rather than losing a third of the world’s food production to the garbage can, we can take small, attainable steps like cooking and sharing meals with others or giving are leftovers to one who needs them. We can do anything if we want to by working together. I will be making a website about zero hunger and I would be telling the causes, problems, and solutions to the world’s hunger.
